ABOUT
Evgeniya Golik (aka Evgola) is a pop surrealist based in San Diego, California. She has traveled and lived in various countries of the world and got to immerse herself in different rich cultures, which undeniably had an impact on her identity and artistic style. Evgeniya was born in what was called USSR (1981), in Vladivostok city on the coast of the Japanese Sea. She graduated from Art School at the age of 17, and having studied at the Far Eastern State Technical University, earned her master's degree in Design and Architecture (2004). After Perestroyka, during her university years, she spent one summer as part of the international art project Pacific Rim Park in 2001 in China, under the initiative of American legendary artist James Hubbell and the Ilan-Lael Foundation. That eventually led to her immigration to the USA in 2005. Being married to a Mexican architect, she has got an opportunity to know and love Mexican culture and aesthetics. In the present moment, Evgola is a full-time fine artist, illustrator, and muralist.
Inspired by the European Renaissance, Orthodox iconography, Slavic folklore, Western esotericism, World’s fairytales, and our modern pop culture, her art combines a classic sensibility within a contemporary setting - a fusion which she likes to define as Neo-Renaissance.
Evgeniya mainly works with acrylic, oil, pastel, colored pencils, gold, and silver leaf on wood panel or paper. Using a variety of media, her work joins real-world portraiture with imaginative, often surreal narratives to highlight and reveal her subjects' personalities and stories. She intends her paintings and drawings to be portals to a mystical realm, which showcases a myriad of characters that seek to express their secret through esoteric language, symbolism, and emotional depth.
Evgola is not represented by any gallery exclusively; however, most of her originals have been exhibited on the wall space at Distinction Gallery, Escondido, since 2017. Evgeniya has been working notably with The Oceanside Museum of Art (OMA), Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA), Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD), and New Americans Museum (NAM). Her artworks have been exhibited in various Galleries within the USA and Europe, as well as being published and commissioned by private collectors all over the world. As of the latest two of her paintings have been published in the Astrology (The Library of Esoterica) book by Taschen. She has recently illustrated the luxury 200th anniversary edition of "Twas the Night Before Christmas" for a Chicago-based publisher. This limited edition is due to be released in autumn 2025. Also, Evgola has been commissioned by US Games Systems publisher to produce her own Tarot Card Deck, which she is currently working on, and it will be sold worldwide.
“The utopian visions of Evgeniya Golik’s (Evgola) work resonate and swell inside of you like glints of sunlight undulating with the current. Her ability to capture serenity alongside the unique complexities of its surreal counterpart is inspiring.
